Collection: Fibonacci Spiral Self Esteem

Fibonacci

Summary:
The Fibonacci sequence is a natural phenomenon, which makes interesting connections between mathematics, science and art! The first two numbers in the Fibonacci sequence are either 1 and 1, or 0 and 1, depending on the chosen starting point of the sequence, and each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two. The spiral that is created by the Fibonacci sequence is found in nature, for example as seen in the unfurling of ferns.

2) Begin with the smallest squares first which are each 1” x 1”. Then mark out the 2” x 2” square. Then draw the 3” x 3” square and so on. Depending on the size of your paper, you can continue the sequence until you run out of room.

3) Once you are done drawing your squares, trim away any excess paper with the Westcott 7" Fun and Fashionable Student Scissors.

Fibonacci4

4) Next use the compass provided in the Westcott Designer Compass Set to draw quarter round curves that connect the squares as show, For instance you will set the compass to 1” for the 1” square and so on until you have completed your spiral. Once finished, discuss the beauty and wonder of this amazing phenomenon and where you’ve seen it before in art, design and nature!
